Multiscale optical flow based respiratory motion correction in cardiac PET/CT
نویسندگان
چکیده
Gating The breathing cycle was divided into eight parts by using a respiratory signal. This signal was acquired by laying a belt around the patient's waist with a black disc containing a white spot in the center. The position of this spot was tracked with the help of a video camera. A light emitting diode (LED) was used for synchronizing the respiratory signal with the listmode PET data. The PET data is then sorted based upon the amplitude of the respiratory signal. Detailed comparison of different gating methods have shown that the amplitude based gating is superior to other forms of gating. The eight gates, which represent eight respiratory phases, are then reconstructed individually without attenuation correction.

Motion Correction in Respiratory Gated Cardiac PET/CT Using Multi-scale Optical Flow
Respiratory motion is a source of degradation in positron emission tomography. As the patients cannot hold breath during the PET acquisition, spatial blurring and motion artifacts are unavoidable which may lead to wrong quantification of the data. A solution based on respiratory-gating and optical flow based correction of the PET data is proposed. This includes deformation of the CT data for ac...
متن کاملAdvanced Motion Correction Methods in PET
With the arrival of increasingly higher resolution PET systems, small amounts of motion can cause significant blurring in the images, compared to the intrinsic resolutions of the scanners. In this work, we have reviewed advanced correction methods for the three cases of (i) unwanted patient motion, as well as motions due to (ii) cardiac and (iii) respiratory cycles. For the first type of ...
متن کاملImpact of PET - CT motion correction in minimising the gross tumour volume in non-small cell lung cancer
AbstractObjective: To investigate the impact of respiratory motion on localization, and quantification lung lesions for the Gross Tumour Volume utilizing an in-house developed Auto3Dreg programme and dynamic NURBS-based cardiac-torso digitised phantom (NCAT). Methods: Respiratory motion may result in more than 30% underestimation of the SUV values of lung, liver and kidney tumour lesions. The m...
متن کاملReducing the respiratory motion artifacts in PET cardiology: A simulation study
Introduction: There are several technical features that make PET an ideal device for the noninvasive evaluation of cardiac physiology. Organ motion due to respiration is a major challenge in diagnostic imaging, especially in cardiac PET imaging. These motions reduce image quality by spreading the radiotracer activity over an increased volume, distorting apparent les...
متن کاملA Continuity Equation Based Optical Flow Method for Cardiac Motion Correction in 3D PET Data
Cardiac Motion artifacts in PET are a well known problem. The heart undergoes two types of motion, the motion due to respiratory displacement and the motion due to cardiac contraction. These movements lead to blurring of data and to inaccuracies in the quantification. In this study a continuity equation based optical flow method is presented and results on 3D PET patient datasets for cardiac mo...
